Grow Well Junior Golfers shine at St. Lucia Open
Press releasePRESS RELEASE – The weather was spectacular. The Golf Course was in great condition and Grow Well’s juniors shone as brightly as the sun for the St. Lucia Open held April 9 and 10.
Grow Well’s Rayshorn Joseph fended off a strong challenge from member Daronhill Mauricette. Rayshorn established a 2-shot lead on the first day of the weekend tournament. They tied the second day and Rayshorn hoisted the Juniors trophy.
Member Zanai Taylor, was more successful handling the first day dominance of Grow Well’s Lisa Daniel. Lisa was playing in her very first tournament, yet sparkled with a 99 on Saturday, but faltered on Sunday, while the more experienced Zanai improved her performance and won the prize for the best net score for juniors. Lisa however won the tournament award for the best overall net day score with a net of 63 which she posted on Saturday.
The other Grow Well juniors in the tournament were 12-year-old Keymanie Thomas who had one of the two best net scores of 68 on Sunday and Samuel Richelieu who also improved on Day 2. Tiala Scott and K.C. Gill rounded out the group of juniors.
All eight juniors were chosen after an exciting qualifier the previous weekend involving 11 boys and 5 girls. From that qualifier, 4 boys and 4 girls won the opportunity to play in the Open. Four of the eight were members of the Junior Golf programme run by non-profit Grow Well Inc. to introduce economically disadvantaged juniors from the Gros Islet district to the game of golf.
Entry fees for the 4 Grow Well juniors who qualified were donated by 5 members of the St. Lucia Golf Association. The St. Lucia Golf Club and the Golf Association are major sponsors of the Grow Well Golf programme.
The 2016 St. Lucia Open Men’s Champion is Romanus Inglis, who also won a Virgin Airlines Ticket for the best overall score. Tim Augustin won the other Virgin Airlines ticket for the best overall net score. Virgin Airlines was the title sponsor of the 2016 St. Lucia Open.
