Satellite Club Induction 31st March 2018
Chair Shermie Welcoming Inductees, visiting Rotarians and guestsPP Peter Douch and Josephine share a moment of levity with PP Jonathan and Delia Chair Elect Melisa , Rtn. Maggie and Secretary Elect Jeanneve pause for a photograph Five new Rotarians: Precious Edward; Kevin Jn. Baptiste; Carina Snagg; Rhon Joseph and Rupert Duncan
The Team North arrived at 6.45pm for the function which was billed to start at 7.00pm.  Although the proceedings kicked of at 8.00pm we were all in good spirit as the bar was well stocked!  Thanks to Rtn. Lisa and Rtn. Jenny in particular, the venue was tastefully decorated and the music was, according to Delia - nocking!!  The event was staged to welcome seven, reduced to five, new Rotarians.  Chair Shermie pulled everyone together to stage a truly memorable induction for our new Rotary family members.  Great job family, lets build on the momentum.  Great spirit; great comradery; great food so what was missing?  Well we missed those who could not be with us for their own personal reasons.  We remember Rtn. PHF Vana who is recovering in the USA from the after effects of a nasty fall in Saint Lucia over a month ago; we remember PP PHF Lyndell Walker who just isn't able to drive at night as well as Eyan, Lana, Tina, Dr. Ram , Luciano and Richard.  These together with Shermie, Cadley, Jeanneve, Melisa, Lisa and Jenny make up the members prior to inducting our five new members, Presciuos, Kevin, Carina, Rhon and Rupert.  Back to my theory that Rotary starts and ends with FELLOWSHIP; everything in-between is SERVICE!
Great to see PP Omar Davis and PP Ed Harris as well as PP Peter Douch, all past presidents of RC Saint Lucia South.
Two more inductions are planned in the very near future for those who were not able to make the Orientation on Tuesday last week.

RCGI Celebrates 25 Years of Service

Rotary Club of Gros Islet - 25 years Old - March 5th 2018.

On Saturday March 24th we celebrated our 25 years of Making a Difference In Saint Lucia, in the Caribbean region and in the world.  at a ceremony held at the original venue, Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, we were warmly greeted by members of staff who fondly remembered our actual Charter dinner on April 17th 1993 and the years that we met at that resort every Tuesday.
PDG Hervé Honore, President Angela Clarke and AG Konrad Wagner
PP Gene Lawrence. PP Andre Cherebin and Friends played for our entertainment
Rtn. Richard Spalding and Yvonne flew in from the UK to celebrate with usPast District Governor Hervé with PP and Past District Secretary Nigel Aqui who also flew in from Trinidad to celebrate with us.
PP Malcolm Burns was the President of RC Saint Lucia when RCGI was Chartered.  He gave a brief history of the club after being introduced by special MC Isiah Hall in extempore rhyming lyrics.  PP Nigel Aqui brought greetings from RC Port of Spain West and PDG Hervé brought a message from DG Waddy.  President Angela did a summary of the Club's achievements over the past 25 years and handed over to PP Judy Deterville who did a pictorial history of the most memorable projects.  AG Konrad also brought greetings from RC Saint Lucia.
We were delighted to have PE Soraya Warner-Gustave and PP Chester (My Way) Hinkson join us from RCSL as well as soon to be inducted members of RCGI, Ty Roberts and Becky Jno Baptiste.  Chair Shermie Darcheville and her husband Shern made the trip from Laborie to be with us also.  Past member PP Michael Green also came along and Partner in Service Ravina Shankar, representing PP Matt who was travelling.
It was an honour to have our friends and well wishers join us as we marked this memorable milestone of 25 years of service.

RC Barbados Celebrates PDG David Edwards
PDG David Edwards
We extend our sincere congratulations to PDG David Edwards and by extension to his wife PHF Donna and the entire Rotary Club of Barbados on this significant appointment to serve Rotary at the International level.
Extract from Rota News - March 29th 2018

“We going places” could have been the colloquially phrased theme of the day ... Alternatively Mahatma Gandhi's quotation “My life is my message” could also have aptly summed up the day’s events as we saw PDG David being appointed to the RI Membership Committee and the pinning of a Paul Harris Fellow on Mrs. Hélène Watkins (thus allowing Rotary International to continue its global good deeds). It cannot be under-stated the importance of both of these honours as, by their doing, the both persons have exemplified the Rotary motto of “Service above Self”

What is the Purpose of a Rotary Club
What is the purpose of a Rotary Club?

If asked this question, what would you answer?  Think about it before you read on and continue to the read more section below.

PURPOSES OF A ROTARY CLUB

The purposes of this club are to pursue the Object of Rotary, carry out successful service projects based on the Five Avenues of Service, contribute to the advancement of Rotary by strengthening membership, support The Rotary Foundation, and develop leaders beyond the club level.

This is the clinical answer that you will find in the Rotary literature.  But what does it mean really?

 Firstly, you need to have a basic grounding in "The Object of Rotary" and secondly you need to know what the "Five Avenues of Service" are.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideals of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster the following:FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

  • SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
